Important Travel Tips

Americans work very hard, oftentimes working more than the typical 40-hour week.  Once the weekend finally arrives, we are just too tired to relax, unwind, and enjoy ourselves. To add even more stress, Americans on a whole are addicted to smartphones and social media, which can deprive us of necessary alone time, and even worse, sleep. For these reasons, vacations are very necessary opportunities to relax and unwind away from our own surroundings and daily stressors. Studies have shown that vacations can make people healthier and happier, which is all the more reason to take more vacations!

Vacations should reduce stress, not add more chaos to your life.  It is important that you always remain safety and security conscious while vacationing, no matter where you choose to vacation. You cannot control or prevent all the dangers and uncertainties around you, but you can surely do as much as possible to eliminate as many as possible.

There are many things that can cause vacation stress such as missing passports, inclement weather, stolen credit cards, and flight delays. You can avoid trip interruption by having a vacation safety and interruption contingency plan in place. Here are some steps you can take below to help you avoid vacation interruptions.

  • Register with the U.S. State Department if you are traveling overseas, and report countries you will visit.
  • Make copies of Your ID and Passport, and keep them separate from the real documents.
  • Scan and email important documents and itinerary to yourself and family members.
  • Do not carry all your cash and credit cards at once. Keep some in your hotel safe.
  • Keep credit cards to a minimal, and notify your credit card companies of where you will be traveling.
  • Book your excursions with a reputable travel agent before you travel so you know what to expect.
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all time, and only visit tourist friendly and safe places.
  • Leave your expensive jewelry in your hotel safe or at home.
  • Wear inexpensive costume jewelry while traveling to minimize the risk of losing your expensive jewelry.
  • Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and clothes while sightseeing.
  • Try not to wear flashy designer clothes, handbag and other luxury items that make you stand out as a wealthy tourist.
  • Avoid oversharing on Facebook while away, especially if you do have a home security system or a designated house sitter to ensure your home is safe.
